I never thought I'd be continuing to analyze a G rated PIXAR film--the morning after seeing it, but WALL*E the new PIXAR movie about a simple little robot has caught my heart and my mind.
I hate it when people start gushing about a movie, and then when I finally see it I feel I can only be disappointed, so about this movie I will simply say this: GO SEE IT.
his movie is revolutionary in many aspects. The lack of main character dialogue has critics comparing it to the greatest of Charlie Chaplin films. And I agree. It also reminds me of the acting and character expression in the film Castaway featuring Tom Hanks and a little volleyball named Wilson.
Throughout the entire movie I kept turning to my husband and saying, "This is so controversial!" "Did they really just say that!?" " Wow. That was edgy for a G Disney film...."
And yes, the G rating is a bit surprising considering the controversial "humor" involving obese individuals , as well as they very political message which paints our society as garbage-producing super-sizing wasteful people. It seems in as little as 150 years our planet will become a toxic dump where humans are forced to leave on a "5 year cruise" until the earths toxicity levels have subsided.
Simply said, I loved this movie. I even found myself crying several times--in little sniffles. It is a love story with a "green" message. And PIXAR has once again topped itself. And shown that they have some real guts even against the wrath of the great Walt Disney Company. ....no references to the Disney Cruise line, but if you put two and two together...PIXAR slapping Disney's oversized parks and cruise ships and even guests was very apparent. Wow. Go Pixar...I guess. But I am on the team of "anything to get our kids off video games and onto the bike trail".
bottom Line: The most lovable robot I've ever seen stars in this year's MUST SEE movie going experience---for everyone...but PLEASE leave the crying baby and buzzing cell phone at home.....oh and unless you want to feel a bit guilty--don't order the super-sized movie beverage for this flick....
PS. Another thing I LOVED--the reverse role love story...never in a PIXAR film have I seen a love story with such reversed gender roles. The female was the gun-toting firecracker. And the male was a sweet gentle sensitive loner who dances with a tin hat to his favorite musical...adorable.
--one note--there is A LOT of violence in this film. The references to guns and punching and fights reminded me of the Looney Toons cartoons where Elmer Fud would get shot in the head by his own gun....but I guess this film doesn't even compare to prime time television or almost ANY video game....
OK, that's all folks. Go See This Movie!!!!!!!!!!!
